Wayne W. Bradley Sr.
is presently the President and CEO of Detroit Community Health
Connection (DCHC), a non-profit community-based primary
healthcare organization, founded in 1988 to provide
comprehensive medical healthcare to the uninsured and
underinsured residents of the City of Detroit regardless of
their ability to pay. DCHC is a Federally Qualified Health
Center (FQHC) supported by federal grants, administrated by the
Bureau of Primary Health Care (BPHC) and the US Department of
Health and Human Services (DHHS).
Mr. Bradley spent 27 years with The
Wellness Plan, a state licensed HMO predominately serving the
public sector, where he held numerous executive positions from
his first, Administrator of Consumer Relations to his last,
Director of Government and Community Affairs. The Wellness Plan
known as CHSD at the time Mr. Bradley was first employed there
had 25,000 members and grew to, at one point, to 162,000
members, grossing over 300 million dollars at its zenith.
In August 2005, Mr.
Bradley served as Campaign Manager for Dr. Jimmy Womack,
Candidate-at- Large, Detroit Board of Education. With no
previous political experience, Dr. Womack received the second
highest vote out of a total field of 59 candidates in Primary
Election. This created the challenge to Mr. Bradley to make Dr.
Womack the top vote candidate in the November General Election!
Dr. Womack won a seat on the Board, and was the second highest
vote getter in the Candidate-at-Large Category, and was then
elected as President of the Board by his peers.
Mr. Bradley has also
served the citizens of Detroit as a police officer, receiving
citations including the City’s highest citation and the Medal of
Valor when he was severely wounded in an armed robbery attempt
in 1970.
Mr. Bradley was born in Detroit at Wayne Diagnostic Hospital,
which may have contributed to his name. Raised in Detroit, he
graduated from Central High School and Wayne State University,
hence his devotion and commitment to the City and surrounding
communities demonstrated by his vast participation in Metro
Detroit activities. Mr. Bradley is involved in a number of
community and professional organizations including the NAACP,
Detroit Branch (Life and Golden Heritage Member); the Detroit
Urban League; Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Detroit Alumni
Chapter; Peter Salem Lodge #40- Prince Hall – F&A Masons, and a
number of United Way funded agencies—such as Peoples Community
Services; Barat Human Services; THAW, and Caregivers as a member
of their board of directors. Mr. Bradley was a founding member
of 100 Black Men of America – Greater Detroit Chapter; Detroit
Central Optimist Club; Board of Directors of Detroit Community
Health Connection, and is the current Chairman of the Board,
Detroit Area Agency on Aging and Chairman of the Board for
Northeast Guidance Center. He is active with the Mt. Vernon
Village Condominium Association, and serves on the Board of
Governors of the Renaissance Club and the Detroit Society of
Clubs.
