Taref Alabed, M.D.
Dr. Alabed received his medical degree from Northeastern Ohio University in Youngstown, Ohio where he also completed his residency at Tod Children's Hospital. He is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and has nearly twenty years of clinical pediatric experience. Prior to joining Detroit Community Health Connection, Dr. Alabed was in private practice in Illinois, handling well child visits, sick visits, newborn care and emergency care.

Taimur Anwar, M.D.
Dr. Anwar received his Diploma in Obstetrics and Gynecology in Dublin, Ireland. He also was a research fellow at St. James's University Hospital in Leeds, England and also received a Master's Degree in Tropical Medicine from the University of Liverpool. Dr. Anwar received his Diploma in Obstetrics and Gynecology and was affiliated with Henry Ford Hospital prior to coming to DCHC. He has published extensively in the area of obstetrics and gynecology and has presented his research at medical conferences all over the world.

Amesha Edwards, D.D.S.
Amesha Edwards, D.D.S., joins the DCHC family as a Dental Provider. Dr. Edwards completed the requirements for doctorate of dental surgery at the University of Detroit Mercy, as well as her Bachelor of Science degree, graduating Cum Laude. She has years of experience in treating patients of all ages in general dentistry, prosthodontic, restorative and periodontal surgical procedures. She was a recipient of the Presidential and Delta Dental Scholarships, and was the President of the Student National Dental Assoc. at UDM. Dr. Edwards finds time to volunteer with Focus Hope, Food services to the homeless, Paint-the-Town, and many other community voluntary causes.

Ann Gillett-Elrington, M.D., Ph.D., Sr. V.P & Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Elrington's extensive educational background includes undergraduate work at Belize Technical College and the University of West Indies in Jamaica. She obtained a PhD in Organic Chemistry from Emory University and her medical degree from Wayne State University. Dr. Elrington practices obstetrics and gynecology at Detroit Community Health Connection. Her many distinguished awards include honors for excellence in reproductive endocrinology and infertility, and high achievement in scholarship and community service.

Alaa Haddad, M.D.
Dr. Haddad received his medical degree from Damascus University in Syria and completed his residency at Providence Hospital. Dr. Haddad is an American Board-Certified Internal Medicine physician who specializes in early detection, diagnosis and treatment of diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, arthritis and heart disease. His distinguished service and genuine care for patients was recognized by Providence Hospital, where he received the Patient Care and Scholarly Activity Award.

Garrett Martin, M.D.
Dr. Martin completed his residency at Meharry Medical College, in Nashville, Tennessee; he received his undergraduate degree from Hampton University, Cum Laude, Hampton, Virginia; Dr. Martin has extensive experience in program based on serving an underserved inner-city population with emphasis on primary healthcare issues including TB, HIV, hypertension and diabetes. He a lecturer on many topics in his area of expertise, and tutored first and second year medical students in Anatomy and Physiology at Meharry; he is the recipient of the several awards, including the National Public Health Scholarship. Dr. Martin has extensive clinical experience, and proficient in Invasive Procedures.

Mayra Troya-Nutt, M.D.
Dr. Troya-Nutt joins the DCHC family as an OB/GYN Provider; she completed her undergraduate and medical school training at the University of Panama, where she also maintained a private practice.. She received the Charles C. Vincent, M.D. Award for "Excellence in Obstetrical Care" from Wayne State University School of Medicine, where she received her degree in Obstetrics & Gynecology. Dr. Troya-Nutt served as Executive Chief Resident In OB/GYN as a resident at Wayne State University/Hutzel Women's Hospital. She is licensed to practice in the State of Michigan; and has conducted extensive research at France's National Center of Scientific Investigation, University of Paris XI in Human Reproduction. She has published work; fluent in English and Spanish, and conversational in French. She is a member of the Michigan State Medical Society, the AMA, and American College of OB/GYN. Her community involvement includes - co-chair of Mich. Tri-County Beat the Odds; Volunteer, Wayne County Juvenile Detention Facility.

Ghouri Ramesh, M.D.
Dr. Ramesh received her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from Gandhi Medical College/Osmania University in Hyderabad, India. She specializes in pediatrics and completed her pediatric residency at Children's Hospital of Michigan at the Detroit Medical Center. Although Dr. Ramesh practices at Detroit Community Health Connection as a pediatrician, she also has post-graduate training in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Mohammed Saleh, M.D., & Associate Medical Director
Dr. Saleh is a graduate of Aleppo University School of Medicine in Syria. Following his graduation, he spent two years as a resident in the department of Internal Medicine at Damascus Veterans Hospital. He completed his residency at Wayne State University, Sinai Grace Hospital. Dr. Saleh also successfully completed Fellowships in both Endocrinology and Geriatrics at Wayne State University. Among other Endocrine diseases, Dr. Saleh focuses on Diabetes Mellitus and Hypertension and subsequent coronary artery, eye and kidney diseases.

Marie Shoulders-Williams, RN, NP
Marie Shoulders-Williams has joined the staff as a Nurse Practitioner. She completed her course requirements for a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Detroit Mercy, which enables her to provide primary care to patients in heath care. She completed her undergraduate requirements and received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Mercy College of Detroit. Prior to accepting the position with DCHC, she was employed with Harper Hospital as a Nurse Research Coordinator. She also has experience as a Clinical Documentation Specialist, and a Registered Nurse CNII. She has received several awards and honors for her commitment and participation in the community, and is a member of several professional organizations and committees.

Orlene Thomas, M.D.
Orlene Thomas, M.D., has joined the staff as a provider in the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Thomas completed her residency at Wayne State University/Detroit Medical, in Detroit, MI., and Medical school at The Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine in Hershey, PA. She completed her undergraduate degree at Howard University in the field of Biology; Dr. Thomas has past practical experience with the Wellness Plan, Sleep Lab Tech, Psychiatry Dept, NASA Bed Rest Study, Junior Research Assistant, Resident Counselor at Lincoln University, and Teaching Assistant at Lincoln University. She is licensed in the State of Michigan, and a recipient of the Wyett-Pharmaceutical Scholarship Grant-Wayne State University, 2003.

Alicja D. Wasilewski, M.D.
Alicja D. Wasilewski, M.D. (a Contracted Provider) earned her degree in Psychiatry from Wayne State University/Detroit Medical Center. Dr. Wasilewski is board certified by the State of Michigan, and received the Pfizer Psychiatry Resident of the Year Award in 2001. Her particular areas of expertise are Out-patient-Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine, Outpatient-HIV and dual diagnosis, Private Practice and Urgent Care, and substance abuse.

Khalid Kamal, M.D., F.A.A.P., F.C.P.S.
Dr. Kamal did his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the King Edward Medical College, Lahore, Pakistan. He did his membership and then a fellowship in Pediatrics from the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan. He completed his pediatric residency from the Children’s Hospital of Michigan, Detroit. He is board certified, has twenty years of experience in dealing with newborns, children and adolescents, and has many publications.  

Priya Priyadarshini, M.D.                                                                                                                                                                                                            Dr. Priyadarshini has joined the staff as a provider in the field of Internal Medicine/Infectious Disease.  She received her medical degree from the Rajendra Medical College, in Ranchi, Bihar, India; she completed her residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, and Internship at Raritan Bay Medical Center (affiliated with Robert Wood Johnson Medical School) in New Brunswick, NJ; she also completed an internship in Primary Care at the Rajendra Medical College.  Dr. Priyadarshini is dual licensed in the states of Michigan and Illinois.  She is Board Certified in Internal Medicine.  She belongs to several professional associations, and was an Infectious Disease Fellow at Loyola University Medical Center, Maywood, IL.  Prior to coming to DCHC, Dr. Priyadarshini worked as an internist with the Chicago Consulting Physicians.

Clarisse Carter, MSN, APRN-BC                                                                                                                                                                                            Clarisse Carter has joined the Medical team as a Family Nurse Practitioner.  Clarisse has previous experience with the McAuley Nurse Managed Healthcare Center, Cabrini Clinic, and Minute Clinic in Clinton Twp.; she is a faculty member at the University of Detroit Mercy in Clinical Nursing; she was an RN Specialist in the Nephrology Dept. at Henry Ford Hospital.   She volunteers her time at the Immanuel House of Prayer (FACE), and the Michigan Dept. of Community Health (MDCH).  Ms. Carter completed her undergraduate degree in nursing at Madonna University.  She received her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Detroit Mercy.

KiShawn Kole-James, DDS

Kishawn Kole-James has joined the Dental team as a dental provider.  Dr. Kole-James has previous experience with the VA Medical Center, as a General Practice Resident, and prior experience as a pediatric dental & office assistant.  He completed his education at the University Of Detroit Mercy School Of Dentistry, and received a Bachelor of Science Degree of General Studies from the University of Michigan.  He is the recipient of several dental awards and participated in an International Service Trip in the Honduras---a Medical Dental Mission in 2005.  He participates in several community charitable activities, such as Safety Street, Give Kids a Smile, ASDA Kids Program........his way of giving back to the community.

 

Errol Glenn Elrington, M.D.

Erroll Elrington joined the DCHC staff as a contracted provider.  He attended the Belize Technical College, receiving and Associates Degree in Science, and received a General Certificate Examination Advanced Levels in Zoology Chemistry; from there he attended the University of the West Indies, receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Ecology & Chemistry, in Mona, Jamaica; Dr. Elrington completed his Pre Med studies at  Georgia State University, in Atlanta, GA; he received his medical degree from the  Medical College of Georgia, Augusta, GA; and completed his Internal Medicine & Pediatrics Residency Program at Wayne State University, Detroit, MI.  Dr. Elrington is Board Certified in both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics.  He is the recipient of many academic scholarships and participated in several research projects, as well as publications.  He is the proprietor of The Elrington Medical Center, Redford, MI.  He gives back to the community and his native Belize country each year by returning and providing free medical services with his wife, Dr. Ann Elrington.

 

Haggins-Dabney, Janean, M.D.

Janean Haggins-Dabney has joined the staff as a provider in the field of Internal Medicine. Dr. Haggins-Dabney completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Sinai-Grace Hospital, Detroit, MI; and received her medical degree from Wayne State University, Detroit, MI; Dr. Haggins-Dabney completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, receiving her BA.  She has numerous work experiences in the field of internal medicine in the Detroit area, including B Medicine Medical Supervisor at Sinai Grace Hospital, Medical Director of E.B. James Nursing Home, Medical Director of Community Care Partners, Inc., Medical Director of Healthy Teens Community Center, and Chief Hospitalist at United Community Hospital.  Dr. Haggins-Dabney is certified as a Diplomate in Internal Medicine.
